Starehe MP Charles Kanyi Njagua popularly known as Jaguar has decided to vie for the parliamentary seat as an independent candidate after being defeated by Simon Mbugua in UDA party primaries.
Mbugua won twice, first during the nominations on April 14 and on an opinion poll conducted by UDA during the repeat of the nomination exercise, and was handed a nomination certificate by the party to vie for the parliamentary seat in August 9 elections.
Jaguar protested Mbugua’s win saying that Starehe locals were denied their democratic right to vote for their preferred candidate when the party resolved to repeat the nomination exercise via an opinion poll. Jaguar felt that UDA betrayed him by denying him the ticket.
“Watu wa Starehe wamesema hawapangwingwi! The will of the people can not be ignored. I met with the people of Central ward na wamesema Starehe bila Jaguar si Starehe. By the will of the people I will defend my seat as an independent candidate. Tupatane kwa debe 2022,” Jaguar wrote on Twitter.
During his meet with the people tour at Central ward, Jaguar told off DP Ruto that he was not interested in the East African Legislative Assembly seat that he was being offered so as to pave way for Mbugua in Starehe.
“I want to tell William Samoei Ruto without fear that the EALA seat he was giving me, he should give it to Mbugua wife because he won’t be voted for here. You can not remove me as a sitting MP and send me to Arusha, I won’t take it, I know that a thief has 40 days, he should go to where he was stealing but not here,” Jaguar said
The lawmaker further said that he will work with whoever will win the presidential elections.
