Leaders from Mt. Kenya regions have come out to tell Deputy President William Ruto that he is not their automatic Presidential candidate for the 2022 elections.
The leaders have however insisted they will wait for President Uhuru Kenyatta to give them direction to take ahead of the next general elections.
Speaking on Saturday in Sagana town, Kirinyaga County during a meeting with Kikuyu elders, the political leaders accused the William Ruto of undermining his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Some of the leaders who spoke at the meeting include former senators Kembi Gitura (Murang’a) and Daniel Karaba (Kirinyaga).
Others included former MPS Stephen Ngare (Ndia), Joshua Toro (Kandara), and Peter Gitau (Mwea).
“He (Ruto) has been going around conducting early campaigns even after he was told by the President to stop and focus on the development of the country. Dr. Ruto’s political marriage with the President may soon be over,” Mr. Gitau said as reported b Daily Nation.
The leaders vowed they will speak in one voice as a region in the next presidential election.
They insisted that Uhuru Kenyatta is still Central Kenya kingpin and they will remain united until he tells them his preferred presidential candidate.
“Our President has an immense wealth of experience and we shall listen to him come 2022 polls. We shall not be divided by any outsider,” said Gitau.

They assured President Uhuru that they will respect and will not defy him when he pinpoints to them the person he prefers for the presidential seat.
The leaders also observed that although President Kenyata had during his 2013 and 2017 campaigns agreed that he will support his Deputy for the top seat, the narrative may change because “the deputy president has not been cooperative enough”.
They urged Mt. Kenya resident to ignore critics and continue supporting President Uhuru.
