West Pokot governor John Lonyangapuo has announced that he will meet Raila Odinga in a meeting that could culminate in a political deal.
Lonyangapuo launched his party Kenya Union Party (KUP) on November 12th and now he is seeking to an alliance with big political players.
The West Pokot governor decamped from Gideon Moi’s Kanu party and decided to launch his own political outfit.
Thousands of supporters gathered in Kapenguria during the launch of Kenya Union party, area politicians like Pokot South MP David Pkosing joined the new party.
On Thursday November 18th, Kenya Union party announced that they had received an offer from former prime minister Raila Odinga.
KUP said Raila will officially give his offer to the party leadership and delegates at Kishaunet grounds in West pokot county.
Lonyangapuo’s party thanked ODM party leader for being the first presidential candidate to contact KUP leadership for a political offer.
The party further stated that it welcomes any presidential candidate to give its offer to the Pokot people, saying that the community got raw deal in the division of national cake in the past.
“On Monday 22nd November 2021 Former Prime Minister Rt Hon Raila Odinga becomes the first presidential candidate to contact Kenya Union Party-KUP leadership willing to give his offer. This comes in the wake of the launch of Kenya Union Party on Friday 12th November 2021. Mr. Odinga will give the offer to the party leadership and delegates at the Kishaunet Showground. This is what KUP stands for as we welcome any serious presidential candidate to give his offer to the pokot community learning from history how the community has been given a raw deal in the division of national cake. Welcome we evaluate the offer together!” Kenya Union party announced.
It’s not a surprise that Odinga is the first presidential candidate to contact KUP. Raila’s ODM is embracing the idea of working with other small parties and has signed a handful of coalition agreements.
However, William Ruto has refused to work with small parties which he terms as ‘village parties’. The DP insists that tribal outfits are irrelevant and any party supporting him must dissolve and join UDA.
