A woman from Kiambu is seeking justice after three-year old daughter was sexually abused by a female neighbor well known to her.
Joan, a mother of three minors, said that the incident took place in January but their journey to getting justice is facing obstacles.
According to her, the prosecutor was bribed, and the charges were changed from defilement to attempted defilement even though the medical examination indicates that her second born daughter is no longer a virgin.
“She was defiled by someone well known to us, she is a neighbor and automatically as Kenyans, neighbors as are friends. Out of respect, my kid calls this woman aunt.
“On the 23rd of January, my kid came back home with a tampered skin tight and she had not left like that because the person who had dressed her was my cousin so when she came back with a tampered skin tight my cousin was concerned why the skin tight was tampered with,” Joan narrated while speaking to Plug TV.
Her daughter told them what had transpired but she did not confront the neighbor, who is a tout, over the issue since she is a wild woman and very violent.
“My baby told us that aunt Maggie removed her skin tight and touched her private part. My cousin advised me to follow the right channel which we did the next day,” Joan said.
Upon examination, the doctor confirmed what the girl had told them saying that she had lost her virginity.
“I went to the hospital to confirm if whatever the kid was saying was correct or not, first of all I hoped that it was not [true] in as much as the kid was saying, I hoped that she was still intact. I remember very well the doctor saying ‘this one is already a woman’,” Joan narrated.
The doctor’s words were so painful that she passed out. The reality of the matter began hitting her after she regained consciousness.
“The way the doctor put it really breaks me until now because a small girl like that was compared to a mother like me. I think it is the hardest thing for a mother to take in because every mother wishes to daughter to have their flower till marriage,” the mother of three said.
The incident has been tough on her in such a way that the doctor who consoles her daughter thinks she needs counseling more than her daughter.
She has however advised parents not to trust anyone with their children.
“Trust no one with your kids. Be your kids best friend, talk to them on a daily basis right now it is a two months holiday, be there for them,” Joan said.
