Political bickering over a claimed 2022 pact between Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and ODM leader Raila Odinga went to another level on Sunday, with the latter countering a statement issued by ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna.
Kalonzo had earlier told Nation that he had a secret pact with Raila Odinga on how to work together ahead of the next General Elections.
Edwin SIfuna then issued a terse statement in response to Kalonzo’s claim, stating that his party would never work with Wiper leader. Sifuna went ahead to claim that Kalonzo was a two-faced character.
“The Orange Democratic Movement is shocked by claims made by Hon. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka that there exists a secret pact between him and our party Leader H.E. Raila Odinga that will see Raila support him in 2022. We wish to state categorically that no such deal exists,” Sifuna said.
“We are however not surprised that Kalonzo is making those claims. It is typical of Mr. Kalonzo’s character as a two-faced treacherous character who is always whining while seeking to reap where he did not sow.”
In its statement, Wiper rubbished Sifuna’s claim that the secret pact between Kalonzo and Odinga was non-existent.
In her response Wiper, Secretary-General Judith Sijeny embarrassed Mr. Sifuna with some brutal facts.
Sijeny explained that the pact between Musyoka and Raila may have not involved the Orange Democratic Movement as a whole.
“The two senior politicians may have made a deal without the knowledge of any other members or officials of the party,” she said.
She added that Sifuna’s statement was in “extremely bad taste as it appears to have been tailored to cast aspersions on the character of Hon Kalonzo”.
“I have a reason to strongly believe that Sifuna did not seek the views of Hon Raila before putting pen to paper,” she said.
“The tone and language used are unbefitting of a person holding the title of secretary-general of any political party, leave alone the ODM which is led by the well respected Odinga.”

Sijeny also noted that her party leader has been Raila’s running mate twice, both in 2013 and 2017 – and both are senior politicians who respect one another.
“It comes as a shock to me and the entire Wiper fraternity, therefore, to see the shameless, unwarranted attack against Hon Kalonzo from a man who is so politically junior to him and who should defer to Hon Kalonzo, owing to the latter’s immense political, leadership, and diplomatic experience,” she said.
She called on ODM Secretary-General and his ilk to tame their antagonistic grandstanding that she noted was doing ODM more harm than good.
According to her Sifuna’s act was an uncouth and tempered language.
