There was a security breach at deputy president William Samoei Ruto’s Bomet rally after a strange man climbed to the podium with the intention of reaching him.
The daring man came all the way from the crowd within the Bomet Green Stadium to access the deputy president without any invitation.
The move forced the hawk eyed presidential elites manning William Ruto to whisk away the unidentified man to an unknown location. It is not clear where the man was taken to though and whether he will be charged in a court of law for the act.
Despite his efforts to fight, he was overpowered by the bodyguards whose mission was to ensure maximum security both inside and outside the stadium.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) meeting then went on as planned after the perceived threat was contained by the deputy president’s security details.
By then, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominated member of parliament Mr. Wilson Sossion was addressing the crowd and he never noticed the security breach behind him.
While at it, the second in command for the first time broke his silence following the hateful sentiments by his key ally Meru senator Mithika Linturi.
According to Ruto, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party does not tolerate remarks that profile personalities or communities. As a result, he urged his foot soldiers to mind their language in a bid to bring the country together.
“We (UDA) do not subscribe to any divisive talk. We do not agree with any talk that profiles individuals, groups, or communities,” Ruto stated.
“Senator Linturi made a statement which he regrets. He has apologized and withdrawn the statement. Going forward, all of us in my team must be mindful about our language and watch what we say so that we can unite this country,” added Ruto.
The second in command went further to call upon the government bodies to deal with any politician who engages in hate speech irrespective of their political affiliation.
“We want every inciter in Kenya, whether they belong to UDA or the other side, to face the law equally so that we can secure our nation,” he stated.
William Ruto’s warning comes just a day after Meru senator Mithika Linturi was on Sunday morning arrested by the hawk eyed criminal detectives following his hateful remarks at William Ruto’s Eldoret rally.
This arrest was in the wake of a directive by the directorate of public prosecutions boss Mr. Noordin Haji who wrote to the Inspector General police Mr. Hillary Mutyambai to arrest, investigate and share the findings with his office.
These sentiments drew sharp criticisms from Kenyans and key political leaders in the country, arguing that such remarks were a recipe for violence towards the 2022 general elections.
For instance, Gatundu South member of parliament Moses Kuria asked the deputy president to discourage his allies from making such hateful and careless sentiments.
Others like Mathira member of parliament Rigathi Gachagua said that Mithika was right but Kenyans had the following to tell the Mathira legislator:
“This is how Ruto lost my vote, all the best Rigathi Gachagua and your UDA platoon, tell your friends Mt Kenya is not the same again, some of us will be voting Rao and the numbers will be more than 20% hence a win for Rao”
