Majority of Kenyans are rushing to ensure that they register/update their simcards details as the period provided by the Communication Authority to do so comes to an end.
CA’s director general Ezra Chiloba announced that unregistered simcards will be disconnected after April 15.
Kenyans however no longer need to worry about beating the April 15 deadline because the registration period has now been extended to 6 months.
Kenyans will now be required to update their simcards details by October 15, 2022. according to a communication from the Communication Authority of Kenya.
Those who will not have registered their simcards by then will be fined while service providers will also be penalized for missing on the target.

Aside from the extended period of registration, Safaricom Telecommunication company has also provided a platform where their customers can update details of their simcards on their own thus making the process easier and faster for their customers.
That can be achieved by a user visiting the company’s website . The user will then be required to navigate to the accounts section where he/she will have to follow a simple guideline including entering his/her phone number and accepting the company’s terms and conditions. From there, one will follow other steps to successfully confirm the simcards details.

This comes just days after Telkom provided their customer with a self registration platform. Airtel is yet to follow suit.
The simcards registration is aimed at improving data accuracy and at the same time fight crime. The government attempted a similar plan in 2012 and 2018.
