It has been established that some politicians seek the help of witch doctors to be able to clinch elective seats.
According to a report by The Nairobian, most witchdoctors reap big at the time when elections are nearing because that is when politicians seek for their services.
One of the witchdoctors who spoke to The Nairobian is identified as Sabil Abdul, a Tanzanian but operates in Nairobi and Mombasa.
The witchdoctor charges between Kshs 50,000 to Kshs 1 million. His charges are based on the seat that one is seeking.
“I arrived from Tanzania March 28. This campaign period is always busy for us. In my case, I have been receiving many calls from Kenyan politicians who want my services,” he said.
He added that most of those looking for him are those who want to run for the parliamentary seats but there have been few calls from aspiring governors.
He performs his job in the wee hours of the night but the client has to pay money first so that he can get the requirements for the ritual, some of which he claims are imported from Tanzania.
“The treatment is my secret, but I give them some herbs which they put in their bath water to ensure that luck follows them to election day. Before the treatment begins, I explain everything to them because [it’s about] one’s faith and belief in supernatural matters. Those who lose elections understand the rules,” Abdul said.
A Pangani based witchdoctor identified as Mama Kipini also echoed Abdul’s words saying that she has a long list of politicians seeking for her services just as it is the norm in previous elections.
“They (politicians) have reached out to me and some have visited my house. Unlike other waganga, I don’t force them to undergo strange rituals. I only provide them with charms that will give them a following,” Kipini said.
Her charges also depend on the seat that a client is seeking. Some of the things that she gives her clients include rings, chains and oils which cost between Kshs5,000-50,000.
