Sonko News has learnt from the Kenya power and lighting company (KPLC) that the whole country is experiencing blackout since this morning.
Apparently, Kenya Power has some issues in its main supply which has caused the whole country to have a blackout. Specifically, KPLC revealed that the Collapsed towers on the Kiambere-Embakasi high voltage transmission contributed to this.
“Dear customers, we have lost our main bulk supply. This is as a result of a national Blackout. Our transmission teams are working tirelessly to restore supply. Kindy be patient and our apologies for the inconvenience. KPLC.” Read a statement from the Kenya power.
A number of Kenyans who spoke to Sonko News also confessed that there were no lights since early Tuesday morning . Below were the samples:
“Roysambu ni blackout tu”
“Runda hakuna lakini autogenerator imekam through kunamulika”
“Kasarani Mwiki blackout!”

At the same time, Kenyans had the following mixed reactions after Kenya Power released a statement about the Nationwide blackout:
“KPLC needs a serious competitor. This Monopoly is doing more harm to Kenyans than good.”
“Is it a coincidence ? that when the power tariff charges dropped,a high power voltage lines collapsed and it never happened before…or is it a sabotage ?”
“Kenyans never fear nor disappoint if upto today they can run with cylinders to empty fuel tanker “
“The reason why the whole country has no electricity is because KPLC failed to do Preventive maintenance.”
“Kenya Power saboteurs have brought down the transmission line Dandora so that the cost of electricity can be taken up again. We have left a cartel to hold country at ransom. The biggest enemy of the Kenyan people is this group called Independent Power Producers. Economic terrorists who MUST be stopped. #KenyaPowerSabotage.”
