Why Raila Odinga Should Keep Off 2027 Elections By All Means

Date:

Raila Odinga is yet to announce his political way forward after losing to William Ruto in the August 9 general elections.

As he prepares to let his followers know his next move, a section of Azimio leaders are pressuring him to step down from politics and find a successor in readiness for the 2027 election.

A close ally of Kalonzo Musyoka, Faraah Maalim, is even suggesting that Raila should settle on the Wiper party leader as his successor so that he can lead the coalition because he has been faithful to him.

According to him, the ODM party leader will lose terribly if he attempts to vie in the next general elections and won’t even get a million votes.

“If Raila Odinga does not pass the mantle to Kalonzo Musyoka and natures the possibility of running again, he is going to end up with something like what he had in 1997 when he had around 667,00 votes. Kalonzo had an option of joining Ruto but did not. He stuck with Odinga,” he said in an interview with a local station.

Ruto won last month’s general elections by garnering 7.1 million votes while Raila got 6.9 million votes.

The former prime minister was not satisfied with the outcome of the elections such that he moved to the Supreme Court to contest the results. The Supreme court however upheld Ruto’s victory.
