At least eight members of parliament from Kiambu County did not attend Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Azimio La Umoja rally at Thika stadium today.
The legislators among them host MP Patrick Wainaina, his Ruiru counterpart Simon King’ara, and Juja MP George Koimburi were not at the stadium where Odinga addressed thousands of his supporters.
While Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria could not attend as he continues to recuperate at a Dubai hospital, his Kiambaa counterpart Njuguna Wanjiku and Kikuyu parliamentarian Kimani Ichung’wa also failed to attend the mega event.
Also missing at the event attended by most of Mt Kenya region governors are Kabete MP James Githua and his Githunguri counterpart Gabriel Kago.
Gathoni Wamuchomba, the Kiambu County women representative, and senator Kimani Wamatangi also did not step on Thika stadium grounds where Odinga was promised huge support from Mt Kenya region voters.
Most of the missing MPs are reported to be Deputy President William Ruto supporters.
According to a section of residents present at the Thika Stadium rally, the absence of their MPs does not matter as they will independently elect the leaders of their choice without necessarily being guided by their parliament representatives.
“I was at the meeting and my MP wasn’t. Whether he supports Raila or whoever is neither here nor there. What matters is our personal decision to follow a route we believe is the best for the country,” Catherine Nyambura, a resident of Juja said.
In the entire county, only four MPs, governor James Nyoro and his deputy Joyce Ngugi attended the magnificent event.
