Kenyans have expressed their disappointments with Kenya Airports Authorities as well as the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport(JKIA).
This is after operations at the airport were brought to a standstill on Wednesday evening after an aircraft developed a mechanical problem while on the runway, forcing planes to land in Mombasa and Entebbe, Uganda.
According to a message from KAA, takeoff and landings were put on hold to allow for the safe removal of the aircraft.
“Jambo! This is to confirm that the runway at JKIA is temporarily closed as crews respond to safely remove a disabled aircraft. Takeoffs and landings are on hold. Passengers are advised to check with their respective airline for flight status updates,” KAA shared on social media.
Operations later resumed with planes being allowed to land and take off.
“UPDATE: Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) runway has been cleared and opened. Normal operations have resumed. Passengers are encouraged to contact their respective airlines for their flight status.
Kenyans have however wondered why JKIA is having a single runway yet it is an international airport.
“You people were told to build a second runway and ended up as a political issue now see,” Athan Ville responded to KAA.
“Very embarrassing moment for JKIA, Air France enroute to Nairobi just landed at Entebbe International Airport,” Narendra Parbat said.
“A CAT 1 airport cannot have one runway! You can’t land airplanes as far as Entebbe because an ‘unairworthy’ plane has stalled in one runway! Make JKIA worthy its name and stature, kama hamuezi, endeni nyumbani…PUMBAVU! What’s wrong with this country?! Nothing seems to work!!” Elias Gates remarked
Others could not understand why they Authority said that the plane was disabled instead of saying that it had developed mechanical problems.
