Why Governor Oparanya Has Been Missing In Azimio La Umoja Campaigns

Date:

For a number of days, Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya has been missing in Azimio la Umoja campaigns.

The former chairman of council of governors was not present in the recent campaigns in Vihiga and Siaya county thus raising suspicions concerning his intentions.

Being an ODM deputy party leader, it is expected that the governor should be present for such crucial events especially when the party leader, Raila Odinga, is absent.

Following his absence, conclusions have been drawn that Oparanya is planning to exit Azimio la Umoja and join the Kenya Kwanza Alliance that will be holding a rally in Kakamega on Saturday.

“Oparanya is set to join Kenya Kwanza. This is part of the #AmalembaDeclaration,” Hon. Odida Jared claimed.

Another tweet suggested that there is a succession problem in ODM because both Deputy party leaders, Oparanya and Hassan Joho, want to succeed Raila.

“There is a succession problem in ODM. Joho feels he should take over the party’s flag when Raila retires yet Oparanya feels the same. Remember both are DPLs. This is evident with Joho’s recent inroads in Nyanza and Western in the absence of Oparanya. Evidently Oparanya ain’t happy,” Shawn Tuesday said.

Oparanya however denied claims that his absence in the campaigns have anything to do with plans to move out of ODM.

In an interview with Citizen TV on Friday night, the governor said that there are a number of administrative issues that he has been dealing with since Raila is out of the country.

“That’s not a very big issue. You know very well that Baba is out of the country so as his deputy, there are quite a number of administrative issues that I had to deal with at the secretariat offices. So Thursday I spent all my day at the secretariat headquarters and on Friday I was also there and I have just come out of the presidential campaign board meeting this evening,” Oparanya said.

He further said that he would be joining the Azimio team in Busia this Saturday after attending the burial of Football fan Isaac Juma in Kakamega.

“Saturday I will be on the ground. I will be attending the funeral of Isaac Juma, the football fan and then thereafter if time allows I will be joining the campaign team in Busia in the evening,” Oparanya said.

Earlier on he refuted claims of joining the DP Ruto-led Kenya kwanza saying that he would rather resign from politics than do so

“If Kenya Kwanza Alliance is the only option for me, I will rather resign from politics and go home to be a farmer than joining them,” he shared on Twitter.
