ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and DP William Ruto shocked the nation on Sunday January 23 when they announced that they will be working together.
Moses Wetang’ula’s Ford Kenya is also part of the newly found alliance as political temperatures rise ahead of the August 9 polls.
It is however very clear that Musalia will not be DP Ruto’s running mate in the coming elections as many Kenyans have anticipated.
According to DP Ruto’s close allies, the running mate position is sealed for the Mt. Kenya region and there is no room for discussion concerning the matter.
“We from the Mt Kenya region are very categorical that the Deputy President position is from our region and that has not changed. That is why you saw among the speakers were Anne Waiguru, Alice Wahome and Rigathi Gachagua.
That tells you clearly. I know our competitors are going to spin that Musalia Mudavadi is going to be the running mate of William Ruto, not at all. The details are going to be unraveled,” nominated senator Isaac Mwaura said in an interview on Monday.
Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa also insisted that the deputy president position is reserved for Mt. Kenya.
“I don’t think it is going to be possible for DP William Ruto to make ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi a running mate. That seat is reserved for Mt Kenya. We have already agreed on that. Our arrangement is on the basis of bigger things,” Barasa told The Star.
He added that they can not afford to leave Mt. Kenya region yet the region has stood by them for a very long time.
According to Barasa, their discussions with mudavadi are based on coming up with solutions for the country’s economic problems and challenges facing Kenyans.
The lawmaker said that Musalia is among Kenyans with the brightest knowledge on economy and bringing him on board means that the Hustler nation is going to benefit hugely from his immense knowledge about running the economy, which is a priority once they form the government.
“The Amani leader understands our economy, was minister for finance when Kenya was not doing very well. That is what the Hustler government will benefit from, forget talk of positions,” Barasa said.
