Why DP Ruto Is Confident That He Will Still Beat Raila In August Elections Despite President Kenyatta’s Backing

Date:

Deputy President William Ruto is not shaken by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s announcement that he will be supporting ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential candidature.

Ruto who was on a campaign trail in Kitui county said that the  president has a right to make his decision and he respects that.

He however had a message for Raila since he was the one who was going to compete with him and not president Kenyatta.

“I want to say the following for the avoidance of doubt and to set the record straight. My friend president Uhuru Kenyatta and myself worked and formed the Jubilee government together. We worked on the road programme 10,000km, we worked on the rail programme, we worked on our  electricity connectivity, TVET programme.

“I am aware that my friend the president has decided  in his democratic right to support my competitor and I respect the opinion and the decision of my friend the president  but I also know that the president is not my competitor. My competitor is Mr. Kitendawili and therefore I ask Mr. Kitendawili not to hide behind president Uhuru Kenyatta. He must step forward and compete with me,” Ruto said while in Mwingi.

The second in command expressed his confidence in defeating his competitor because of the work that his team has done for the people of Kenya, and he is hopeful that Kenyans will consider that when it comes to the elections.

“I also know clearly that I have an agenda and a plan and we are a team. We have a plan for the people of Kenya and on top of that, we have a track record that the people of Kenya will look at and am also aware that the people of Kenya will decide, almost 50 million will decide who the next leader of our country will be and therefore we will submit ourselves to the people of Kenya and we will respect the decision of the people of Kenya as we respect the decision of every Kenyan to choose  whoever they want to be their leader in the great republic of Kenya,” Ruto said .
