Why Atheists Wants Kenyans to Sign 2 Years Marriage Contracts

Date:

The Atheists In Kenya Society is now advising Kenyans to opt for marriage contracts instead of long term unions.

The society argued that the current setupĀ  ā€˜until death do us partā€™ is leading to chaotic family drama or contentious and bitter divorce, thus the need for a more amicable contract.

The Association said the new model should lay out critical marital duties such as housekeeping, finances, childcare, and shows of affection so that each spouse commits to the contract for the period and can terminate or renew it after the lapse of the two years.

We encourage Kenyans to embrace renewable marriage contracts lasting two years that lay out the marital duties (housekeeping, finances, childcare, shows of affection, etc.) for each party,ā€ the Association President Harrison Mumia said in the statement.

ā€œEach partner will commit to that contract during the two years. At the end of the two years, the couple can choose to renew their agreement, adjust its terms, or dissolve their marriage.ā€

Mr. Mumia added: ā€œRather than staying in marriages ā€˜until death,ā€™ renewable marriages would allow partners to tweak their marital contract accordingly, or agree that itā€™s beyond tweaking and end it without the shock or drama of a contentious divorce or lingering doubts about what went wrong.ā€

According to the controversial society, the current lifetime commitment takes away the freedom of the couple to make their own choices since they have to stay in the marriage.

Atheists insist that couples ought to take control of their relationship.
