President William Ruto and the Judiciary have reached a consensus following a meeting which was held with Chief Justice Martha Koome on Monday January 22.
In a statement, released by the Statehouse Spokesperson, Hussein Mohammed, the three arms of the government were involved in the meeting leading to several conclusions.
The Executive and legislature pledged to support the Judiciary through budgetary allocation.
The funds will be used by the Judiciary to facilitate the recruitment of an additional 25 Judges of the High Court.
It also facilitate the recruitment of 11 new Judges of the Court of Appeal.
Resources will also be provided to conclude the vehicle leasing program to facilitate the judiciary’s transport needs.
Besides budgetary allocation, both arms vowed to tackle graft.
“Corruption remains an existential threat to the nation which has permeated the three arms of Government, undermining our country’s tremendous development potential and sabotaging the much-needed transformation of our nation”, read the statement in part.
Further, the statement provides that all the arms of the government will be required to develop policies and guidelines which are aimed at improving service delivery and fighting corruption.
Additionally, it was agreed upon that the three arms of government, had a 30-day ultimatum to submit proposals within the National Council of the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) convened by Her Ladyship the Chief Justice. The forum is expected to be a roadmap for the immediate, medium-term and long-term measures to be undertaken.
