Nominated Member of Parliament David Sankok is mourning the death of his 15-year old son which occurred on Monday.
Memusi Sankok took his own life following a disagreement with his father over his academic performance.
His colleagues in the National Assembly and other leaders including ODM leader Raila Odinga send him their condolence message following his loss.
Despite the fact that Sankok hates Raila and is always criticizing and insulting him, the ODM leader did not shun from sending him a comforting message during this difficult time
“Hon. David Sankok, it is painful to experience losing a child, and even more so, difficult having to bury one; we stand with you during this difficult time. Please accept condolences from Mama Ida and I. May God grant your entire family fortitude. We are praying for you,” Raila said via social media.
Sankok responded to Raila’s message saying, “Thank you sir, I and my family sincerely thank you for standing with us during the most during our most difficult time. May God bless you and your family.”
On the other hand, netizens were perplexed with Raila’s noble reaction even after Sankok mocked him when he lost his son Fidel. The lawmaker claimed that Raila sacrificed his son to win elections.
“innalillahi wainnailaihi rojiun. This is the same man who uttered some nasty things when Fidel Odinga died. How did Raila sacrifice his own son to win elections? May Allah forgive him. You are a jolly good fellow Baba, after he said this to you. You have a great heart of forgiveness,” Hassan Abdi said.
“Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, what is your heart made of? You just forgive freely,” Anyama Douglous said.
Memusi committed suicide at their home in Narok county. It is alleged that the 15-year old took his own life using his father’s firearm after managing to access the safe in Sankok’s bedroom. The lawmaker was not at home when the incident occurred.
Apparently, Sankok and his son have been having arguments over his performance in school.
The boy was supposed to join form three at Kericho High School and his father asked him to report to school but he disagreed with that. He was supposed to report to school last week. At the time, Sankok was not in the country but sent money for his shopping and pocket money.
Instead of going to school, the boy disappeared from home and returned on Sunday, when the MP also returned home.
His father summoned him on Monday for a talk whereby he insisted that he was tired of school. The boy however gave in after a lengthy discussion and agreed to go back to school on Tuesday accompanied by his father.
““The MP then left the homestead, and went to his hotel nearby for a political meeting. At around 3pm, the boy accessed the mother’s hand bag, took the keys to the bedroom and the safe. After opening the safe, he took a glock pistol and shot himself on the chin, with the bullet exiting through the back head,” preliminary investigations revealed.
