Wetang’ula Addresses Claims Of ‘Mocking’ Kalonzo For Bolting Out Of Speaker Race

Date:

Former Bungoma senator Moses Wetang’ula has been forced to address a tweet of him allegedly throwing a jab at Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka after he quit the senate speaker race.

A tweet from Moses Wetang’ula parody account questioned what was wrong with the former Vice President since he had also earlier quit the National Assembly speaker race.

“The other day Kalonzo withdrew from the National Assembly speaker! Today Musyoka has withdrawn from the senate speaker! What is wrong with my brother Kalonzo? Somebody please check on him,” the publisher stated.

Wetang’ula however said that account was fake, asking his supporters to take note.

Kalonzo, who had been fronted by Azimio, bolted out of the race on Thursday morning before senators proceeded to elect the speaker.

“Pursuant to Standing Order No. 8, a candidate may by written notice to the clerk, withdraw his or her candidature before a ballot has started. In this regard, I want to draw to the attention of the senate and senators that this morning, Hon Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, withdrew his candidature of the speaker of the senate and will not appear on the ballot paper,” the senate clerk told senators.

The news was not welcomed with Azimio senators who walked out of the chambers and failed to participate in voting. It is not clear why Kalonzo bowed out of the race but his exit gave Kenya Kwanza candidate Amason Kingi an upper hand as he ended up winning in the first round of voting by garnering 46 votes.

Wetang’ula on the other hand will be facing Azimio’s Kenneth Marende in the National Assembly speaker race.
