Former Prime minister Raila Odinga claims that he won the August 9 general elections by over 60% while his closest competitor William Ruto did not even garner 50% of the votes cast during the general elections.
In a Thanksgiving dinner meeting with his allies at Safari Park hotel on Thursday night, Raila said that victory was stolen from him with the help of IEBC and the Judiciary.
“We won the elections hands down. When history is written the facts will come out. They did not even get 50 per cent.
“As a member of the Azimio coalition, you should walk tall and feel proud because you are a member of a big movement that won the 2022 election. We know what happened. Kenyans will get to know why we have an illegitimate regime in power. We will continue to delegitimize this regime because they usurped power,” the ODM leader said.
Raila however decided not to call for mass protests after the Supreme Court threw out their petition because he feared that a post election violence may erupt, leading to deaths and bloodshed and also the fear of being charged at the International Criminal Court.
He further said that he is not calling for reforms on IEBC and Judiciary because of being bitter after losing elections.
“We need to reform the electoral system; we need to also reform the Judiciary. Not because I feel bitter, it must not be Raila Odinga. I have fought hard for the democratization of our country and I have paid the price for it but I want when I am gone, I leave behind a democratic society,” he added.
Raila convened the meeting to thank his campaign team. His running mate Martha Karua and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka were present.
