“Watu Wanateseka” Diana Chepkemoi Delivers Painful Message From Fellow Domestic Workers In Saudi Arabia

Date:

Diana Chepkemoi, the Meru University student who was detained in Saudi Arabia by her employer, finally landed home.

Diana, 24, was received at JKIA by her family who were accompanied by Kericho Women Rep Beatrice Kemei.

Speaking to the media, an emotional Diana recounted her painful stay at the gulf country adding that there are others who were experiencing tougher situations than hers.

“If I just can be honest, mine was just a tip on the iceberg, people are suffering there , my friends are suffering there it is just that mine, I got support when I raised my voice and I am just pleading with the government to do something people there are mentally tortured, psychologically tortured,” she said

According to her, the employers threaten the domestic workers saying there is nothing they can do because they have power over them as well as their government.

She added that some of those who are being mistreated do not even recall their names or even where they come from because of the  intense suffering.

“Even as I was coming back, they asked me to help them so that they can also be saved,” she recounted.

Diana said that her employer began mistreating her when the first issue was handled under wraps by her agent.

“The problems started when I arrived in Saudi Arabia, I had an issue with her. I reported to my agent but instead of helping, he kept silent over the matter. From there she knew that there is nothing I can do, any small mistake I would be told  there is nothing I can do, I bought you and you will stay here until the contract is over, if I want I can jail you” she said.

The university student made headlines when photos of her emaciated surfaced online. It was said that she was sick but had held by her employer against her will.
