ODM leader Raila Odinga was humiliated during campaigns in DP William Ruto’s stronghold in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet county.
Raila’s motorcade had stopped at the town to address the locals but instead of them showing him support and giving him an ear, they chanted Ruto and UDA as the leader addressed them.
“We have come to tell you that it has dawned. We will bring new things and a new Kenya. We want to move on together as Kenyans, are you ready?” Raila attempted to woo the crowd into supporting Azimio la Umoja but they loudly chanted his opponents name.
Raila went ahead with his speech but he could hardly be heard because the chants were too loud. The rally was cut short because it was very clear that the locals were not going to listen to whatever agendas they had.
His supporters however blamed DP Ruto and his allies for the incident saying that he had mobilized the crowd to show hostility to the former prime minister.
“Raila Odinga is a PEACE LOVING man. Whatever William Ruto and Kipchumba Murkomen have done to him in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet is REGRETTABLE. Sending rowdy youth to heckle is not the kind of politics we should engage in. Pole RAO! We shall REVISIT,” Simon Kuria said.
“This happened due to influence of our opponents who do not want us to sell our agenda in the region. Voting is not taking place today, why send people to heckle us?” Kipokorir Menjo posed.
Raila was in company of his host governor Alex Tolgos, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed among other leaders.
Before meeting the crowd, Raila attended a leader’s meeting at Iten Kenya Medical Training College.
