An armed robber reportedly forced entry into Equity bank, Nairobi West branch that is located opposite Summerdale Hotel on Gandhi Avenue.
Sources indicate that the single robber, who was armed with an knife, attacked the bank and wrestled with security guards. He first tackled a uniformed police officer at the entrance before going for the one inside the banking hall.
Shots were fired and a number of civilians and guards were injured during the scuffle. Videos on the incident have been shared online and one of them shows an injured person being escorted to a waiting vehicle while limping.

The police reportedly tackled the robber and arrested him. Meanwhile, the bank area has been cordoned as police carry out investigations. The road leading to the bank has been closed as well.

Equity has faced numerous bank heists with a section of Kenyans questioning why the bank has always been targeted.
In July last year, the Equity branch in Matuu, Machakos suffered a similar attempt. Five armed robbers pounced on the bank, robbing it of an unknown amount of money as well as stealing guns from officers that were manning it.
