The son and daughter of businessman Jimi Wanjigi have recounted their traumatic experience, when police officers raided their home in Muthaiga on Thursday August 8, amid Nane Nane protests.
The police went after the businessman after finding a car with teargas canisters outside his home. He has also been linked to the ongoing protests after he was captured dishing money to youths along Limuru Road.
“My mother and I were the only ones in the house along with my grandmother. They forcefully kicked on the door. My mum and I had our phones up. We were recording and telling them don’t shoot us.,” Wanjigi’s daughter told the press.
According to her, the police beat them up and confiscated their phones.
She added that police raided their home without a warrant.
“They forcefully gained access and they abused us,” she said.
Her brother on the other hand said the police handcuffed him accusing him of trying to grab their gun.
“I was trying to record them then they said I was trying to grab their gun so they pushed me to the ground, beat me up. There is no reason to use excessive force when they are the ones with the guns, I am unarmed am just looking after my house,” Wanjigi’s son said.
Wanjigi has since moved to court to bar the police from pursuing him. He also denied being thr owner of the car that was found outside his gate.
