Some of ODM officials have continued to rubbish Jimmy Wanjigi’s countrywide tour in a bid to popularize his candidature in the 2022 presidential elections.
This comes amid reports that Wanjigi will be at the coast region for three-day tour to meet ODM delegates.
According to the Kilifi ODM chairman Teddy Mwambire, Wanjigi is just on adventure since he has not been adhering to the party’s guidelines regarding the presidential campaigns.
“I think he is on an adventure, if he has to come to meet delegates, he should have followed party procedures,” Mwambire said.
According to the People Daily newspaper, Wanjigi is set to embark on a tour to the coast in the next three days.
He is expected to meet with about 3000 ODM delegates drawn from Mombasa, Kilifi and Lamu.
Wanjigi has been insisting that it was time for the former prime minister to let ODM have a new presidential candidate.
Recently, ODM’s Secretary General Edwin Sifuna revealed that Wanjigi might not be the flag bearer as he had not submitted his request to be considered for the position yet the party closed the application process for the presidential ticket.
“First of all, he has not presented himself for the presidential ticket. Jimi Wanjigi is not a candidate for the party’s presidential ticket,” Sifuna said in an interview with Spice FM.
According to Sifuna only two people expressed interest in the position. He also claimed that Wanjigi had some hidden intention towards the party which will be known in due course.
“His intention is not to support the party. He has ulterior intentions that he will tell us about when the time is right,” Sifuna remarks.
Wanjigi has already made rounds in the counties of Nairobi, Kisumu, Siaya, Homabay, Migori and Kisii where he met with delegates.
His Migori tour turned violent after rowdy youths disrupted his meeting with delegates.
Wanjigi however said that he will head to Migori in the next two weeks after touring Nyamira county.
