Defense CS Eugene Wamalwa has rubbished claims that DP William Ruto is the one who offered him a job in government.
Speaking during a function in Kanduyi, Bungoma county, on Tuesday July 12 Wamalwa said that it is Uhuru Kenyatta who gave him a job but Ruto was so much against it.
“Uhuru Kenyatta is the one who appointed me to be a Cabinet Secretary in his cabinet and when he selected me William Ruto opposed my appointment and I want to challenge him wherever he is, when I was appointed CS for water and irrigation William Ruto refused the irrigation department to be moved to my office,” the CS said.
According to him, Ruto did not even attend his swearing in ceremony and he was forced to be out of his office for several weeks because of the standoff.
“I was out of office for several weeks because William Ruto did not want me in Uhuru Kenyatta’s government. When I entered the government, I was sworn on my own. I am asking him why he attended the swearing ceremonies of other Cabinet secretaries and refused to come to mine. I was sworn in by Uhuru Kenyatta alone because William Ruto was against my appointment,” Wamalwa said.
He further insisted that his misunderstanding with Ruto began in 2018 when he took Luhya elders to meet with president Kenyatta to discuss issues of Mumias sugar company, Nzoia among others, without his permission. Ruto became furious and demanded him to resign immediately. It is at that moment that he(Ruto) nearly gave him a hot slap.
The CS added that none of his tribesmen would have been in the cabinet were it not for Uhuru Kenyatta because Ruto fired him in 2018.
Wamalwa said that he had remained silent about the issues for too long but it was time to expose Ruto’s ill side because of his demeaning words.
“I did not speak out about those issues for long because I am very patient and I respect the deputy president, but it has reached a point for us to say our truth against William Ruto,” the CS said
Earlier on Tuesday, while responding to nearly slapping Wamalwa during a campaign trail in Western Kenya, Ruto claimed that he picked Wamalwa from the terraces and went ahead to refer to him as a woman.
“I heard a certain guy whom I gave a CS job, he comes from here, saying that I wanted to slap him, I want to tell him that here we don’t slap women, tell him that we respect women and that he should stop gossiping. Without me he would be loitering right now on roads. I took him from the terraces and gave him a CS job,” Ruto said.
Wamalwa first claimed that Ruto nearly slapped him during an Azimio rally at Bukhungu stadium last Saturday.
