President Uhuru Kenyatta landed in Kirinyaga county on Monday where he took a swipe at his deputy William Ruto while addressing residents.
Uhuru was in Kirinyaga to inspect he ongoing construction of the Ksh8.5 billion Thiba Dam as well as the Ksh2.6 billion Mwea Irrigation Scheme expansion project.
Uhuru addressed residents who turned up in huge numbers at different stopovers while he was moving around Kirinyaga county to inspect the projects.
The President cautioned area residents to be wary of deceitful and self-seeking politicians who he said are out to divide wananchi for selfish gains.
Uhuru said he had fulfilled his pre-election promise of delivering Thiba dam and related irrigation infrastructure which was among other pledges such as key roads and electricity connectivity.
“Some of you tend to forget what you had requested. You can see what the Government has done. I had promised to fulfil my pledges and as you can see work is ongoing. Don’t be deceived by few misguided individuals. My Government is action oriented and we don’t waste time with empty talk,” said Uhuru.
Uhuru further cautioned residents not to be deceived and misled by politicians giving them handouts as they seek their support.
On his way to Sagana State Lodge, Uhuru made stopovers in Karatina, Kagumo and Kutus towns to acknowledge greetings from thousands of Nyeri and Kirinyaga residents who lined the roads to receive him.
In his stopover at Sagana, President Uhuru fell short of endorsing Raila Odinga for 2022 presidential election.
“Did you notice someone else sometimes back. I sent a visitor (implying Raila) here, did you see him? I hope you received him well,” Uhuru said in his native Gikuyu language.
The president also hit out at his deputy William Ruto whom he accuses of misleading people of Mt Kenya region.
“When they sell lies to you be careful, you can take the money but be sure to make the wise decisions come that day,” said Uhuru.
