Just months after inciting their supporters to boycott the Royal Media services, deputy president William Ruto and his allies found themselves crying to the owner of Citizen TV Mr. SK Macharia
Led by Mugirango South Sylvanus Osoro, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) expressed their anger at SK Macharia for not giving them full coverage. They urged the businessman to have mercy on them and give them equal time like Azimio since that would amount to fairness.
According to these leaders, Citizen TV on Tuesday gave them a blackout much earlier before they could finish their national Delegates Conference (NDC) at the Kasarani stadium.
“Stop Giving Raila 25 Minutes And Ruto Only 3 Minutes. SK Macharia we understand that you support Azimio but we are watching you.” Said Mr. Osoro.
The cries by the UDA fraternity comes just weeks after William Ruto’s allies started a campaign to boycott Citizen TV after the station covered the chaotic scene in Naromoru where the DP convoy was stoned by angry youth.
Citizen TV on one particular Sunday aired a clip of irate youth shouting as Ruto’s convoy made its way through Naromoru town in Nyeri.
The angry residents could be seen trying to block Ruto’s convoy as they shouted and threw stones at vehicles.
While addressing residents at a different location within Kieni constituency, Ruto claimed the irate youth were paid to attack his convoy.
Feeling annoyed for airing the event, Ruto’s allies called on his supporters to boycott Citizen TV for reporting on the drama in Naromoru.
The allies claimed Citizen TV was biased and maintained that the report on Naromoru chaos was exaggerated.
“I advise the Hustler Nation to desist from watching Citizen TV Kenya . They are taking us back to the dark days of KANU and KADU where biased news was a norm. We can update ourselves using alternative sources like social media platforms. No one is no longer interested in watching mainstream media anymore. It’s time we support each other by consuming news from credible sites on social media,” Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi said.
“Citizen TV Kenya is the latest member of the Githeri Media Group(GMG). I see Citizen TV Kenya has 4M likes. I’m urging all the hustlers to click the dislike button. Acha tutembeze viatu maze,” added Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa.
Tangatanga MP Alice Wahome was also involved in an altercation with Kieleweke MP Adan Keynan during a live interview on Citizen TV and she vowed to boycott the station.
After the noisy argument with Keynan on Citizen TV in June 2021, Wahome accused the station of being partisan and vowed not to honor invites by Royal Media Service (RMS).
The boycott sentiments were repeated by William Ruto’s digital communication director Mr. Dennis Itumbi on several occasions.
Well, months later, the leaders are now blaming SK macharia and Citizen TV for only covering part of their event as opposed to giving them full coverage.
