UDA party has convened a National Executive Committee meeting amid Cleophas Malala ouster plan.
The meeting comes after Lawyer Joe Khalende declared himself the new Secretary General, accusing Malala of sabotaging the party.
Speaking to the press after the NEC meeting, UDA chairperson Cecily Mbarire condemned Khalende’s actions saying he did not follow the laid down procedures.
She however admitted that Khalende was left with injuries after Malala’s supporters stormed the party’s headquarters.
“Yesterday a gentleman by the name of Joe Khalende came here to the UDA HQ and claimed that he is the SG of the party. This morning a group of political goons beat him up and badly hurt him. The UDA party has clear structures, therefore no individual is authorized to declare themselves as an official member, without following the laid down procedures” Mbarire said.
Former UDA chairperson Johnson Muthama has also question the party’s recent events, urging members to avoid activities that will ruin the party
“What is happening in UDA? Veronica Maina and I left a vibrant and peaceful party in the hands of Cecily Mbarire and Cleophas Malala. As party stalwarts, we expected everyone to adhere to the peaceful and cohesive leadership of our party leader. Please let us avoid engaging in activities that could harm our party,” he said
