TSC Deregisters 23 Teachers

Date:

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has taken disciplinary action by deregestering 23 teachers.

In a notice published on Kenya Gazette on Friday, February, TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia noted that the names of the 23 teachers have also been struck out from their roll and will not be allowed to teach.

“In exercise of powers conferred by section 30 (1) (e) of the Teachers Service Commission Act, the commission wishes to notify the public that the persons whose names are specified in the Schedule herein below have been removed from the Register of Teachers pursuant to the provision of section 30 (2) of the Teachers Service Commission Act,” read part of the notice.

The teachers’ commission listed the TSC number, case number, the name of the teacher and date of removal. Macharia explained that the decision to deregister them followed a thorough analysis of the disciplinary cases filed against them.

However, TSC did not list the specific disciplinary cases each of the 23 faced.

Following the decision, TSC made it clear that the 23 will not be allowed to teach again unless granted a fresh mandate.

“Where the name of any teacher is removed from the register under this Act, such name shall not be reinstated except by the direction of the Commission,” TSC stated.

“A teacher whose name has been removed from the register shall cease to be a teacher for purposes of this Act with effect from the date of such removal.”

“A person shall not engage in the teaching service unless such a person is registered as a teacher under this Act.”

Violating the orders will lead to a two-year imprisonment term as stipulated by laws guiding teachers’ practice.
