The Directorate of Criminal (DCI) Investigations has refuted claims that 7 of its detectives were forced to resign following the beginning of a new administration.
In a statement, DCI said that the detectives in question resigned at their own will on different dates last month.
“The officers reported to have resigned did so under the 24-hour rule on diverse dates last month and were not forced to leave,” DCI said.
“The detectives who were based at different specialized units within the Directorate left to pursue their careers in the private sector as financial investigators, fraud experts, IT specialists among others,” DCI said.
Reports emerged that the detectives had been fired just when president William Ruto fully assumed his responsibilities.
Sources claimed that the officers were involved in the dramatic arrest of DP Rigathi Gachagua inn July last year.
15 detectives are said to have stormed Gachagua’s home in Nyeri at 5am and took him to custody over graft allegations.
“7 DCI officers who arrested Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua last year have been forced to resign from the police service,” a netizen claimed.
A document also surfaced online showing details of the detectives in question. The document noted that another detective based in Langa’ta had died while receiving treatment.
