Just when the voting exercise was launched across the country, reports emerged that Kenyans in Australia were already done with voting.
The reports claimed that all the 223Kenyans living in the country that had been registered as diaspora voters had turned out to vote thus realizing the 100% voter turnout.
Apparently, ODM leader and Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga had emerged the winner after garnering 198 votes. William Ruto who is vying under Kenya Kwanza Alliance is said to have come second after getting 19 votes, George Wajackoya of Roots Party came third with 6 votes while Waihiga Mwaure of Agano got 0.
That however has turned out to be false news. This is because the Independent electoral and boundaries Commission is conducting Diaspora voting in 12 countries and Australia is not one of them.
Diaspora voting is going on in 12 foreign countries which include Burundi, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, South Africa, United Kingdom, Canada, USA, South Sudan, Qatar, UAE, and Germany.
Meanwhile, voting kicked off at 6 am in the morning. Kenyans will be allowed to vote until 5pm after which polling centers will be closed in readiness for vote counting. Those who will be on the voting line by 5 pm will however be allowed to vote.
IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said that voting hours will be extended in polling stations that experienced delays or interruptions.
