Transline bus service has vowed to punish Cliff Onchiri, the employee who was caught on camera celebrating Raila Odinga’s defeat in the Presidential elections.
In a video that has elicited mixed reactions among Kenyans online, Cliff is seen celebrating after Raila lost the 2022 presidential bid to Ruto.
Cliff is heard shouting, “Amkeni amkeni ameshidwa tena.”
While Kenya enjoys massive freedom of expression, Onchiri’s actions have not gone well with employers. The bus service which enjoys most of its clients from the lake region has reportedly recorded a decline in the consumption of its services.
In its statement, Transline has distanced itself from the actions of the worker. According to the transport company, Cliff Onchiri behavior does not portray the position of its company on politics.
“Our attention has been drawn by a video clip going round the social media don by Cliff Onchiri a casual worker based at Afya Center offices.
As a company, we wish to disassociate ourselves from that clip and state that it was done by individual will and does not in any way represent the company’s views.
We apologize to our esteemed customers for the offending clip,” read the statement.
On his side, Cliff Onchiri has noted that he did not intend to offend anyone in any way. While taking to social media, the regretful worker has asked the offended Kenyans to forgive him.
“I want to apologize for the video that is trending on social media. I did it out of stupidity while on Company’s uniform. The clip does not represent the view of my employer,” he said.
