A man in Mombasa has slammed former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko for lying to Kenyans using graves.
Sonko, in company of Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and other party members together with Muslim religious leaders visited Kikowani Muslim cemetery in Mombasa, where Sonko’s mother was allegedly laid to rest and conducted some prayers.
The Wiper party members were on a campaign trail in the coast to popularize Sonko’s candidature when they took time to visit his late mother. He is seeking to succeed governor Ali Hassan Joho.
In videos shared on social media, Sonko was overwhelmed with emotions and Kalonzo could be seen comforting him as the prayers went on.
It has now emerged that the grave that Sonko visited was not his mother’s. According to the man, whose name was not immediately identified, the grave that Sonko visited on Friday belongs to his mother.
The man who was pained by Sonko’s actions claimed that his mother died 7 years ago and she was buried at the cemetery.
“This is my mother’s grave Mariam Ali. 7 year ago in this grave. Don’t look for votes using grave’s. It is very saddening and has pained us so much for Sonko to say that this grave is his mother’s. Sonko should look for his mother’s grave, not this one,” he told journalists while at the spot where Sonko’s team conducted prayers.
He however urged him to ask for forgiveness and at the same time bashed Kalonzo for easily falling for the trick.
“Listen Sonko, lie to people in Nairobi, lie to people in Mombasa but not here. Don’t lie to people using graves. These people are resting, you are disturbing them and Kalonzo, how can you be fooled like that. It is painful and Sonko, you should come here to ask for forgiveness,” the man said in tears.
