President Uhuru Kenyatta made is first public appearance in Mombasa since the August 9 general elections.
A video that has since gone viral on social media captured the outgoing president Uhuru happily interacting with locals as he walked in the streets of Mombasa in the company of newly elected Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Shariff, his predecessor Hassan Joho Kilifi County Governor Gideon Mung’aro, Nairobi Woman Representative-elect Esther Passaris, former Murang’a Woman Rep Sabina Chege among others.
The leaders had had a closed door meeting and enjoyed a meal at the Barka restaurant that is located in Mombasa’s old town before taking to the streets.
As they strolled around Uhuru enjoyed a chat with Abdulswamad as he waved and greeted people across the streets.
What people did not notice in the video was the president’s tight security was present and they could be heard ‘harassing’ people to get out of the way and prevent them from nearing the sitting head of state. Infact, one person who busy recording Uhuru was ordered to get out of the way with his phone.
His bodyguard Timothy Lekolool was also present. He was not in uniform and was donning a striped T-shirt. Lekolool made sure that Uhuru was within his reach.
Uhuru also promised to look for the cameraman who approached after admitting that he had seen his message.
Aside from that, the president was casually dressed with a checked shirt and completed the look with white sneakers.
