The management of War Memorial Hospital has been left in awe after thieves broke into the morgue and stole a body.
According to preliminary reports, the stolen body had been held over a pending bill of Ksh 921,000.
The shocking incident was confirmed by the Nakuru War Memorial Chief Executive Officer Patricia Musale confirmed on Friday, February 23.
The body of 73-year-old had been stored at the mortuary since September 28, 2023.Â
Her family initially tried to collect the body but were prevented by police officers who had placed the hospital under a lock and key.
Faced with this obstacle, they were forced to wait for the hospital to resolve its disputes with the county government ownership changed hands.
Since then, the family had involved the court to collect the body, but the hospital further prevented them, citing an unpaid bill.
The issue has been escalated by the ongoing wrangles pitting the hospital and the Nakuru County Government led by Governor Susan Kihika.
However, the facility remains closed pending a court determination on the matter.
