The war between Russia and Ukraine has been going on since last Thursday after Russian president Vladimir Putin approved a military operation in Ukraine.
By Saturday, a report by The Cable indicated that 198 civilians had been killed and over a thousand others wounded. The number of those killed, including three children, could however be more than what the Ukrainian ministry of health had recorded.
Ukrainians and also foreigners have been fleeing the country to nearest countries like Poland in a bid to save their lives.
A frustrating fact is that Africans are having it rough in their efforts to flee the Ukraine as they are facing racism.
According to one Nze Kiev, Ukranian and the White people are being given first priority on rescue mission.
“In the train stations here in Kyiv, children first, women second, white men third, then the remaining is occupied by Africans. This means that we have waited for many hours for trains here & couldn’t enter because of this. Majority of Africans are still waiting to get to Lviv,” an earlier tweet by Kiev read.
Kiev and his fellow African men had to push and shout so that African women too would be considered.
Upon reaching the Poland- Ukraine border, crossing was also another task as they had to wait for hours.
“Watch how they are threatening to shoot us! We are currently at the Ukraine -Poland border. Their Police and Army refused to let Africans cross, they only allow Ukrainian. Some have slept here for 2 days under this scorching cold weather, while many have gone back to Lviv,” Kiev shared on twitter.

“Trekked for more than half a day to the border and still gotta be treated like shit here. Immediately the media guys with cameras left, they start pushing us Africans to go back even when have formed a queue like we are pests to be get rid of,” he added.
Another post by real Ffk said that countries bordering Ukraine only allow Arabs, Ukrainians, Indians and other nationals were allowed to seek refuge in their countries but not Africans.
“They only people they are barring are black Africans and right now there are hundreds of African students stranded at Polish borders,|”
