For sometime now, Kenyans especially on social media have been referring to the Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua as Riggy G.
Riggy G has now replaced Uhuru Kenyatta’s nicknames Jayden or Uhunye and as the days go by the name continues to gain popularity.
The name was founded by a Kenyan University Student identified as Ivy Chelimo. Chelimo, who was interviewed during the Trend Show said that she came up with the name during the deputy presidential debate in a tweet since she did not want to mention Gachagua’s real name as everyone else was doing.
“You know actually you can’t mention a politician because you don’t want that traction on your page . He was winning the debate and I was like I am not going to mention his name or anyone’s name and then forgot about it,” Chelimo said.
In the tweet, she said “Riggy G amekataa Kumention Freedom” meaning that Gachagua had refused to mention Uhuru Kenyatta. At the same time, she also earned a nickname and she is being referred to as Shawry of nicknames after it was discovered that she came up with Riggy G.
The law student also said that she hopes that she will one day meet Gachagua and her first question will be about his speech during the inauguration ceremony. In his speech, he did not shun from attacking the previous administration.
Chelimo however revealed that she had political ambitions come the next general elections.
“At one point I really want to venture into politics. In 2027 I want to vie for MCA or senator in Nandi county,” she said.
The 2022 Deputy Presidential debate was held on July 19 at the Catholic University of East Africa. In the debate, Gachagua faced Martha Karua, who was Azimio’s presidential running mate.
