Deputy President William Ruto was on Saturday June 4 cleared by IEBC to vie for presidency in the August 9 general elections.
The clearance was welcomed by jubilations from his supporters who had accompanied him, together with his running mate, Rigathi Gachagua, to present their nomination papers to IEBC at Bomas of Kenya.
Speaking after his clearance, Ruto said that together with his Kenya Kwanza team, they have confidence that the electoral commission will deliver credible elections.
He further said that they will cooperate maximumly with IEBCÂ in ensuring elections are credible.
“Mr. Chairman and our returning officer, I want to say on this podium that Kenya Kwanza has confidence in IEBC. We are confident that you are up to the task. I also want to commit that my team in Kenya and I will work with you diligently so that we can have a credible free, fair, democratic and verifiable election,” Ruto told IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati.
Ruto further announced that Kithure Kindiki will be the chief agent in the coming general elections.
“I have appointed a responsible professional lady and gentlemen to be our liaison between Kenya Kwanza and IEBC. Professor Kithure Kindiki who is here will be our chief agent assisted by Veronica Maina and Josephat Nanok. These are the lady and gentlemen who will work with you in making sure that the communication, the relationship between us as candidates and IEBC is useful, helpful in making sure that we run the length and breadth of this election without hitches,” Ruto said.
The second in command also called upon Kenya Kwanza supporters across the country to maintain peace and avoid unnecessary shouting matches and focus on ensuring that the team emerges victorious in the August 9 general elections.
