City Hall, the seat of power in Nairobi County, has been of chaos, running battles and gunshots for many years. And the battles in the House did not start in Sonko’s administration but long time even before devolution came to place.
Before we had county government, wrangles among councilors were no news at City Hall with most brawls ending in blows, slaps, and kicks.
Political leaders went to higher levels to settle political and personal scores, with some of them hiring goons to mete violence on rivals.
Back in 2010, Bahati ward councilor, Benson Kangala lost his teeth after a group of people attacked him during the clamor for the removal of by then Nairobi Mayor, Geoffrey Majiwa.
With the promulgation of the new Constitution, leaders hoped that new leadership positions would exorcise the ghost of violence from the City Hall.
But that has not been the case, sadly the dishonor has only got deeper.
Changing from city council to the county government and bringing in more educated leaders has not changed the image of the county.
Even though in Kidero’s administration there was some semblance of peace, Nairobians still witnesses the ugly disputes between the governor and the ward reps or even the assembly itself.
But when Mike Sonko came in matters moved from bad to worse.
Since 2017 a month barely passes without Assembly being involved in a physical or verbal clash.
Running battles, physical confrontations and teargas has come to define City Hall.
At the center of this chaos are just five people.
No battle in the City Hall that Mike Sonko, Speaker Elachi, Matopeni Ward Representative Abdi Guyo, Assembly Clerk Jacob Ngwele, and or Minority Whip Peter Imwatok have not been mentioned.
Even after supporting her return to the office last year, Governor Sonko still does not see eye-eye with Speaker Elachi.

Beatrice Elachi has always been involved in one dispute or the other with MCA Guyo or Mr, Ngwele over the control of the county assembly.
While Minority Whip Peter Imwatok has allied himself with Elachi. He has never grown tired of questioning Mike Sonko’s management style.
The continued battles between the five leaders have given birth to division in the county assembly, it is either split when debating or making important decisions.
