We weren’t friends-Steve Mbogo reveals about Dafton Mwitiki

Date:

Flashy politician Steve Mbogo has broken his silence over the three-month disappearance of businessman Dafton Mwitiki.

Speaking on Switch TV on Wednesday, May 20, Mbogo stated that he was disheartened by the disappearance noting that he was not as close to the businessman.

He went on to clarify that the two had met at a shooting range and later at Dusit D2 in January 2019 and he never heard from him again.

“So many people approached me over the issue. I used to know Dafton way back when we used to go to the range where we train on shooting. It is not that we were very close friends.

“We met at the site, that is at Dusit. He is also a civilian firearm holder. We were where there was an exchange of fire and anything can happen at any time. It was all about sacrifice,” stated Mogo.

“Actually, we stood there for only a minute when someone decided to take a picture. Since that day, we had never met until I saw the news that Dafton was nowhere to be seen. It is a very sad thing even if he was not a close friend of mine,” he added.

He further commended the National Gun Owners Association for pursuing the truth on the businessman’s disappearance.

“I know Dafton is someone who had a family. Dafton was a member of the gun owners’ association and I see them do a recommendable job through social media.

“They were posting his pictures and I hear they went to an extent of three to four days searching for his body all over Juja and somewhere in Kiambu County,” he added.

Mwitiki’s car, a black Land Rover Discovery, was found dumped in Juja, Kiambu County along the Kimbo-Kiganjo road on Friday, March 13 when he was reported missing.

An appeal for information on Mwitiki’s whereabouts was launched on social media by his associates, among them entertainment industry bigwig Amor Thige.|

A report by The Standard emerged a few days later claiming that Mwitiki lived a double life after he was allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a Chinese national on February 27, 2020, after which the kidnappers demanded a Ksh100 million ransom to have him freed.

Police later claimed that Mwitiki was also caught up in another case where a university student was abducted and Ksh100 million demanded to secure his release.
