State House Comptroller Katoo ole Metito suffered a setback after Members of Parliament rejected his request of getting Ksh400 million to purchase motor vehicles.
MPs criticised the move arguing that it was misplaced at the time when Kenyans were struggling with high cost of living.
According to reports, Katoo had requested the money out of the approved budget to support his operations which MPs turned down.
Further, members of the Budget and Appropriations Committee have criticized a supplementary funding request by various ministries, departments, and State agencies (MDAs) saying they were abusing the constitutional provisions and defying the budget-making cycle.
This was after a report of the controller of budget revealed that 18 MDAs had written to the National Treasury requesting funds for various projects amounting to Ksh15.27 billion.
When the Controller of Budget Dr. Margaret Nyakang’o appeared before the Budget and Appropriations Committee she revealed insensitive proposals by government ministries and departments that sought a supplementary budget to fund other items out of the approved budget.
Besides the State House Comptroller, the State Department of EAC had also written to allocate Ksh16 million for the purchase of the cabinet secretary’s official vehicle.
Meanwhile, at the State Law Office, a requisition of Ksh250 million had been made to cater for the refurbishment of the registry and to create office space for the Attorney General and the Solicitor General.
However, MPs criticized the requests indicating that they were violating the budget-making process and cycle.
