A video is making rounds on social media of a Standard Media Group employee, who threatened to take his life at the company’s offices over unpaid salary.
The employee, who was on top of the building recorded a video of himself saying he either gets paid or takes away his life.
Attempts by a female colleague to persuade him to come down for a negotiation however proved futile.
“Hi guys, right now am at Standard Media, who refuse to hear what am talking about. I need my money today, am not leaving here without my money. Am leaving here in two ways, I either die or I get my money. I am posting this, hopefully you guys see it when am still alive. I am leaving here with my money or my life in their hands.
“I am done. This dreadlocks are not in my head for nothing. Standard Media have refused to pay me even if it was there mistake . I die here today or I get my money,” the employee said.
Addressing the viral video, Standard noted that the person in question was their freelancer, who was currently on sabbatical.
The media group however noted that it was able to address the freelancer’s concerns immediately.
“This incident, in which the individual recorded himself in a distressing situation, has profoundly affected us, and we want to express our sincere empathy and concern for our colleague. We were able to address the freelancer’s immediate needs,” Standard said
“We acknowledge the sever impact that the delay in payments has had, especially given the challenging financial circumstance that the company is navigating,” their statement further read.
Standard added that they fully committed in resolving all outstanding arrears. The media group also said that it is working to provide support to their employees.
