Kenyan Special Forces (SOG) officers on Saturday intercepted and eliminated five Al-Shabaab militants en route to Fafi Constituency in Garissa County.
The highly-trained forces also apprehended four Al-Shabaab fighters, who are currently undergoing intensive interrogations.
“Kenyan forces recovered 2 PKM, 1 RPM, 6 AKs, and several IED making materials. Additionally, telephone phones and SIM cards were also recovered,” a source stated.
“A quick exploitation of the phones has so far given important leads on a number of local AS facilitation network.”
The intelligence-led mission took the militants by surprise as they attempted to reportedly establish a temporary camp in the Fafi.
The successful outcome of the operation is attributed to the cooperation and timely information provided by local residents, for which the SOG officers expressed gratitude.
