Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi will not be attending the house special sitting on Tuesday and Wednesday
This is because Muturi was advised to recuperate at home after undergoing a minor surgery on his arm.
The announcement was made by the Deputy Speaker Moses Cheboi when he officially communicated the speaker’s absence during the special sitting.
“He had a minor accident in the office while trying to pull a drawer. His chair slipped and he hurt his right arm, shoulder and back. He is recuperating well and in high spirits. We have had consultations on these messages,” Cheboi said.
Cheboi will preside over the sittings scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday alongside four members of the speaker’s panel.
Members of Parliament were recalled from their Christmas holiday to discuss bills that are tied to next year’s general elections and also to approve appointments to the PSC.
The MPs are expected to discuss six items including a bill to amend the Political Parties Act and provide for new ways of coalition building.
Muturi hurt his shoulder three weeks ago just as the parliament was preparing to go on recess.
“3 weeks ago just before the House went on recess, had a minor accident in the office while trying to pull a drawer & my seat slid off the tempered glass chair-mat where I ended up hurting my right hand shoulder &the back.I sought medical attention&was released to recuperate at home,” Muturi shared on twitter over the weekend after undergoing the surgery.
