Skyward Express Launches Flights From Nairobi to Migori

Date:

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Wednesday, September 13 launched flights from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to Migori Airstrip.

According to the local carrier, the flights will fly to Migori on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with airfares starting from as low as Ksh8,600.

Dash 8 Q-100 will be deployed on the route, with a passenger seating capacity of 37.

Speaking during the launch, Kenya Airports Authority Board chairman Caleb Kositany welcomed more collaborations with county governments to promote air travel in the country.

“With the guidance of our parent Ministry of Transport on aviation policy, security, and safety, KAA pledges diligent oversight for the success of national programs,” Kositany stated.

On his side, Murkomen promised to support investments and expansion of the sector in the country.

Demand for air travel gained popularity in the country attracting players to new routes.

In June, Skyward Express began daily flights between Nairobi and Kitale to meet the growing demand.

Some of the routes that Skyward Express currently serves are Mombasa, Diani, Lamu, Malindi, Lodwar, Eldoret, and Kakamega.

Homabay County under Governor Gladys Wanga also revived the Kabunde Airstrip. That followed the introduction of direct flights by Renegade Air Limited to Kabunde Airstrip in Homa Bay Town Constituency.

“Operation of this plane will improve the image of our county. Even our lifestyle must now change. For that matter, our ladies with boyfriends in Nairobi must now be sent money for air tickets instead of the bus fare they used to send,” Suba South MP Caroli Omondi stated during the launch.

During the launch, Wanga lauded the move arguing that it was key to revitalising tourism in the county.

Tourist attraction sites in Homa Bay include Ruma National Park, Rusinga Island and Lake Rusimbi Nyaima.
