They say a man is only yours when you are confined in your home but once he leaves the home he belongs to everybody,
To some extent, the statement is true because if it were not true, there would be no thing such as second wives.
Husband sharing has become a norm, or maybe it was a norm and after Polygamy was legalized almost a decade ago, the opportunity is being utilized well.
Among those utilizing it so well are our beloved female politicians, most of them finding no offense in ‘stealing’ other women’s husbands. Below is a list of six politicians who got married to married men.
Mary Wambui
Wambui is the former MP of Othaya. It was rumored that she was the second wife of retired president Mwai Kibaki.
Kibaki however came out to deny the allegations and insisted that he only had one wife who was Lucy and she was known to the public.
“This is my wife Lucy and I want to state something that I have wanted you to hold dear and permanently in your heart. You know and everybody knows that I am married and I have only one wife and everyone in Kenya knows it. But the Media keeps repeating about me having another wife or wives,” Kibaki said in March 2009.
Sources privy to the Kibaki and Wambui however maintained that they are married. A few years ago, Wambui said that she was married but did not reveal who her husband was.
It is however claimed that they have a child together known as Winnie Wangui.
Esther Passaris
Passaris is also among the female politicians who got married to married men. The Nairobi Women Representative is married to Pius Ngugi and in 2016, she went public about it.
Being a second wife however is something that Passaris is not proud of but she is not sad as well and she tries to balance between the two.
Joy Gwendo
The former Kisumu Senator was literally labeled a husband snatcher. This is after she dumped her husband and engaged in an affair with a married man identified as Thomas Mbewa.
Their relationship however strained Mbewa’s 8-year marriage to Pauline, but he was ready to settle down with Gwendo as his second wife. This was back in 2014.
Sabina Chege
Chege is married to Gathitu Maina, who is the former manager of Kenya Dairy Board. According to sources, the two got married in a traditional ceremony, not long before she was crowned the Murang’a Women Representative for a second term.
Years before their union, Maina married his first wife Wanjiku in a white wedding back in 1996. At one point, Wanjiku expressed fear that Chege might take over all the family property.
Margaret Kamar
The Uasin Gishu woman representative confirmed that she is also the wife of the late Veteran politician Nicholas Biwott and she came after Hannie and Kavista, who are her co-wives.
The deputy speaker of the senate however maintains that Hannie is the matriarch of their family.
Cate Waruguru
Finally, there is Laikipia Women Rep who is the second wife of lawyer William Kigen.
Unlike Passaris, Waruguru has no regrets over marrying someone else’s husband.
“Somebody else’s husband is their husband within the confines of the home. Mzee ni wako kwa bomaakishatoka, take care of yourself and choose what you want. The constitution allows it,” the lawmaker said.
