Chokoza hitmaker Marya is still paying the price of being exposed by Edgar Obare over working in a brothel.
In October last year Obare revealed that Marya and other female celebrities like Amber Ray offered their bodies for money in brothels that had been disguised as high-end spas, an example being one at JKIA terminal A.
Edgar’s expose also revealed that Marya was working in a brothel at TRM along Thika road. It is alleged that she would sleep with her friends’ boyfriends behind their back. It was also claimed that she would steal from her clients who invited her over to their houses.
Photos were even shared to prove that she was actually ‘guilty as charged’.
Marya has however denied the allegations saying her only mistake was associating with women who were a bad company.
This was at a time when she was struggling to find a job. Marya took a break from music since she could not finance the career. She ended up in Dubai, fell in love with someone and even had a son together but things didn’t work out for them.
She returned back to the country, and had to find a way to sustain herself and her son and that is how the story came about.
“At that time you tell someone to find you a job so that you can sustain yourself so you are going to people that you know have connections but it all went to deaf ears I got myself associating with a bad group of women and that’s how the Marya name was tainted so am struggling to come back slowly,” Marya said.
She however said that whatever she did was for the sake of her son but admits that she made bad choices.
“Maybe people can never understand it, some can, some can not, there is a level you get where you want your child to be happy, you want to give this child the best you can. I can say that my son was happy. Yes I made bad choices, associating myself with people who I thought had the best interest for me but it was not like that,” the mother of one explained.
Until now, Marya says that she has never overcome the incident. Her brand and business are struggling since people do not want to associate with her due to the story.
“You meet someone and they insult you to your face and this is someone you know. You cannot start convincing everyone that this is what happened. I always tell people you don’t have to believe exactly what is written there is some twist,” Marya said.
According to her, Edgar never wanted to listen keenly on her side of the story since he was already convinced by the ladies who said that she was working in brothels.
