National Assembly Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro came out to deny bribery allegations leveled against him following his summoning by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
Through a letter by his lawyer Adrian Kamotho addressed to EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak on Thursday, November 2, Osoro blamed a political operative for his recent woes.
The South Mugirango accused the political operative of pressuring a certain EACC commissioner to prosecute him.
He however dismissed the allegations insisting that he was an outright leader.
“Plausible material has been laid before us, pointing to collateral interventions and orchestrations by a political operative codenamed RG, who has been piling pressure on certain EACC officers to persecute our client at whatever cost,” read the letter by lawyer Kamotho.
“Notwithstanding the political machinations, our client has no doubt that he will effortlessly be able to prove his innocence if so required, and restore the phenomenal trust and public confidence that he has diligently cultivated over the years.”
His legal team termed the allegations by the commission against Osoro as “false and baseless,” going ahead to note that the lawmaker is a professional leader with no history of misconduct.
“Based on media expositions referencing on the said letter, our client is alleged to have breached undisclosed integrity and ethical requirements governing the conduct of State officers,” Kamotho noted.
“Unequivocally, our client avers that the allegations being peddled against him are absolutely false and baseless. Our client is a paragon of virtue, who has perpetually conducted himself in the most professional and ethical manner. Our client has never engaged in any conduct whatsoever, that would warrant the sensational accusations being recklessly leveled against him.”
EACC had ordered the South Mugirango MP to present himself at the state agency’s headquarters, on November 6 at 9 am to record a statement on the same.
Osoro made the alleged utterances on October 29, during the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) event organized by Bomet Women Representative Linet Chepkorir, popularly known as Toto.
During the event, the legislator bragged about how deep his pockets run before seemingly ceding to dishing out money to his constituents in exchange for a few favours including buying their silence.
