A 27-year old man is in custody for allegedly killing and burning his mother’s body beyond recognition under unclear circumstances.
According to a report by DCI, Jeff Onyango Nyawada set his mother, Roselyn Nyawanda, a deputy principal of Migingo Girls High school, ablaze after stabbing her multiple times and dousing her with paraffin.
The heartbreaking incident occurred inside the school compound on Saturday August 20.
Onyango’s crime was discovered by his brother identified as, Stepehen Allan Nyawada, who had paid his mother a visit on Sunday night at around 8 pm.
“Roseline, who resided at the school staff quarters with her son, had no idea that her own flesh and blood would turn against her and end her life in the most savage manner,” part of the police report read.
Upon arrival, Stephen was not immediately allowed access to the house which was locked from inside. He however persistently knocked on the door.
“A few minutes later, he heard some movements from inside the house and after a while, Onyango opened the door. With apprehension exhibited all over his brother’s face, Stephen’s intuition told him that something was amiss. He immediately stepped inside the house looking for his mother in the living room and bedroom to no avail. But on approaching the bathroom, he stumbled on the charred remains of his dear mother,” DCI stated.
Police officers from Rabuor Police station were immediately informed about the incident and responded immediately.
“They recovered paraffin in a mug and noted that the bathroom’s walls had been blackened with a smudge soot. Also recovered from the scene was a kitchen knife beside the woman’s body and a lantern lamp with an open knob,” the report further read.
Other sources indicate that the suspect is mentally unstable and is a drug addict. He is said to have caused chaos at their home multiple times.
